Raised on Chaplin Island Road in rural Miramichi, Susan Butler developed her love of music at an early age, inspired by her mother and artists such as Mario Lanza, Patsy Cline, and Jim Reeves. After receiving vocal training at St. Mary’s High School, she began a lifelong career as one of the Miramichi’s most celebrated performers.
Susan served as Director of the Miramichi Folksong Festival for over 44 years, helping preserve and promote the region’s rich musical and storytelling traditions while bringing renowned performers from across Canada and the United States to the festival.
In 2007, Susan was appointed to the Order of Canada in recognition of her contributions to the arts and her extensive fundraising efforts for community and charitable causes. Throughout her career, she has performed across North America and shared the stage with many distinguished artists, leaving a lasting impact on Miramichi’s cultural heritage.
